Key Points

SAIL swim league is a Parent Run Program and to run a successful and efficient meet, we need all hands on deck!  If you do not volunteer for the meet, then your child does not swim.

-Volunteers are needed in all areas - so far only 4 parents have certified and completed their training!  This needs to be 100% complete by May 23rd!

20 timers (9-10 per half meet) are needed per meet so all parents are required to certify as timers.  There are also other easy options to signup for - ribbons, running, tent parent, etc.  All volunteer positions have role descriptions.  Other Roles that require more training-Clerk of Course, Computers, Referee, Stroke & Turn, etc.  These have online & in person training classes.  It is listed on the calendar when and where these will be held. As some parents' swimmers will be aging out of the program, we will be needing new parents to replace these roles!

Other areas that volunteers are needed:

-Pool Setup/Breakdown- We have 2 home meets this season.  Both days the pool will close at 3pm and we have 2 hours to clear the deck of chairs/tables, remove the diving boards, setup the starter equipment, install the swim blocks, and put in the lane lines.  After the meet is over at night, the pool will need to be put back together. (goes a whole lot quicker at night since we have the older swimmers help as well!)

-Concessions- we have 2 home meets during which we need to stock and run the concession stand.  This is our biggest money maker of the season.

-Event planning: Pasta Pump, Year End party, Team Activities

-Spirit Week- Support the assistant coaches organize Fun Daily events, Barracuda Buddies, Iron Man awards.

-Communications - Updating KWPR Facebook Page.  Rosie Carpenter will be creating a KWPR Instagram account.  Please inform the SAIL Reps if for any reason you do not want your child's picture posted on Facebook or Instagram!

Meet Signup

A week before swim meet you will need to sign your child up for which events they will swim.  You will choose up to 3 events.  The coaches will add on the relays.  For new swimmers, the coaches will advise you on which events to sign you child up for.  This needs to be completed the Friday before the meet.  For example, swim meet signup closes at midnight on May 26th for the June 1st meet.  Get it done early! There are no exceptions to adding your child in late.  Don't worry though, we will send reminder emails! :)  Coaches and SAIL reps will be available next week to help new parents with signups!

MISC

-Check the KWPR Website for a list of what to bring to the meet - Swim Meet 101

-We have a team photographer who takes great action shots of the kids!  He posts the emails after the meet and tries to get a variety of shots of all the kids.

-Absolutely no pictures are to be taken behind the starting blocks.  This is strictly prohibited.

-After meets we like to plan to meet for a bite to each, usually DQ or Cook Out.  This is not required, more for socializing afterwards!

-Pool dues for Knollwood and HOA for Planters Row - please make sure these are all paid!

Notes from the Coaches:

We have 76 Swimmers this year, which is the largest we've had in recent years- our team is definitely growing!  In order to give our kids the best coaching experience, we will be doing a swim test this year so that the focus is on coaching the kids, not teaching them to swim.  By May 26th Kids over 10 will be required to complete 2 lengths of the pool unassisted, on their stomach (with face in the water) and on their back. 10 and under will need to be able to swim 1 length of the pool unassisted. This is for the safety of all our swimmers.

Once school is out, there will be 3 different options for practice. Planters Row in AM, and Knollwood will host both an AM and PM practice.  All practices are open to all age groups depending upon your availability, but please only attend 1 per day so all kids can get the necessary attention!

We will be doing a mock meet before the first swim meet so new swimmers can get used to the sound of the starter equipment.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns please bring it up to your SAIL rep or one of the coaches!

Thank you,

Sally, Sarah, George, Susi, & Terra
