The home meet 5/28
Hey everybody! Thank you all so much for the help and making this week's meet possible.
Our first home meet is nearly upon us, and as usual it is
All Hands On Deck!
In addition to all of the same volunteer positions as this week, we have quite a bit of setup to be done before the meet, extra jobs that have to be done when hosting, as well as operating a concession stand, and cleaning up at the end of the night.
Generally, We hope to have both parents from each family taking at least one shift for the meet, as well as helping set up and/or tear down everything after the meet.
The setup begins at 3:00 p.m. at the pool in order to get everything ready before the warm-ups. If every family sent someone to help with the setup, it could be done very quickly and then we can all sit in the shade for a few minutes and cool off. 😁 Of course we understand if you're working and unavailable to help with that job, but it really is the most understaffed and highest need of the night! So let me know if you're not able to make that, otherwise we will plan to see everyone represent at the setup! Also sign up for that position so we know who to expect! Cleaning up is generally an easier job because it's cooler, and there are a lot of teenagers who are willing to help.
We will be opening up the volunteer jobs sooner this week and hope to have all the shifts covered by the end of the weekend so that the last minute things that inevitably happen can be dealt with easier. If you have a physical need that prevents certain types of volunteering, please, please let me know! I will stop hounding you about those types of jobs.😁
I know this all seems a little overwhelming and crazy, especially for the new families. But I promise you that the best way to get past what looks like chaos is to get involved behind the scenes so you know how it all works.
It gives you a new appreciation for how many people it takes to make this work, and also makes it look more manageable. I love seeing everyone bring their own skills and abilities to the swim team, as well as figuring out what your own potential is while the kids do the same.
We do actually have families where one of the parents works the entire meet in a job and the other parent usually also volunteers! And in one of the families, both parents consistently work the entire meet. This isn't to make anyone feel guilty! I just want to acknowledge publicly the work that those people do every single week. This is a parent-run show here, and y'all do amazing work.
To summarize:
1) We assume every family will send someone to help with set up at 3 pm Thursday. If not, text me.
2) We assume every family will cover 2 shifts in addition to the set up. If you have a special situation or can't do that, let me know.
Nothing here is inflexible! We can always adapt to your family's needs.
